I love these commercials. Amazing advertising, right? I bet all of you know what kind of blender you are going to want next time you are rocking yours back n forth when it struggles to crush ice next time.

I know I would like to have one of these.

I don't know, looks to me like a Dell T5500 with no monitor and configured fairly close to the base Mac Pro costs $2962.00 after a $520 discount. Its three-year warranty is more like Apple Care. The processor is slightly faster and the RAM runs at 1333MHz. The Dell needs an optional FW card but doesn't say whether it's FW400 or 800. Also I didn't see a mention of optical sound.

BUT! It's a Dell. Look up the reliability of Dell workstations online and the decision to get a Mac Pro is a huge no brainer. Even several hundred dollars more for the MP's great chassis and Mac OS with the ability to run Windows 7 is still a great deal.

Yes, you would. Because the Jews were almost wiped out by a genocide in Europe, hence the reason the UN gave them Israel. Excuse the jews for not feeling so safe in europe after the 1940's.

Quite possibly, except that it isn't the case anymore.

In the 21st century Israel's claim to exist is certainly not stronger than China's claim to Tibet - even though lots of people in "the West" seem to believe that China should give Tibet independence.

FWIW I do think Israel has the right to exist, but I also don't think that Tibet should be independent from China.

What I'm trying to say is that in the public sphere these two things aren't treated equivalently.

I swear to God, I hope iDVD isn't gone completely but more integrated into iMovie or something along those lines. iDVD is one of my favorite applications in the iLife suite.

The 64-bit rewrite thing is pretty awesome though. Hopefully iTunes will be a part of that (doubt it though).
Agreed. The transition to 64-bit is long overdue and iDVD is a great application.

Why won't they just give the cpu sku, it would make it much easier to compare than ghz values, with turbo, ht, vt enabled and what not.

Apple marketing don't think those things matter. You can find all the info easily at ark.intel.com and the information is in plenty of threads in the iMac subforum.

any care to fill out the rest?

    21 inch base = Core i5 2400S
    21 inch high = Core i5 2500S
    21 inch bto = Core i7 2600S

    27 inch base = Core i5 2500S
    27 inch high = Core i5 2400

If you don't like the rules of your job, then quit. Otherwise suffer the consequences.

too bad 3 people will have to die in a chinese jail to protect apple's trade secrets (or rather, secrets that were intended to be revealed a few months later)

the most hilarious thing though is that the new slim 360 comes with a "Kinect - port" ... wh-h-what ? so the installed userbase of 30-40 millions is essentially worthless ?... seriously that's such a obvious ridiculous error ... yo ucan't make this **** up

Maybe it uses 2 USB sockets on a regular Xbox? I dunno. They cannot ignore the existing 360 userbase. That'd just be plain silly.

W-CDMA is just an air-interface standard. It's not a mixture of anything. It was originally designed for the Japanese FOMA system and was subsequently adopted by the 3G GSM people.

It is a CDMA air interface, but it's unrelated to IS-95, the popular US standard used by Sprint and Verizon that's frequently called "CDMA" as if the terms are interchangable. It doesn't contain any GSM, and it doesn't contain any IS-95. It is, however, like IS-95, a CDMA system, and UMTS, which uses it, is a version of GSM.

    Not exactly.

    From Wikipedia:
"More technically, W-CDMA is a wideband spread-spectrum mobile air interface that utilizes the direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access signalling method (or CDMA) to achieve higher speeds and support more users compared to the older TDMA signalling method of GSM networks. W-CDMA is a competitor to CDMA2000."

And if you look at this presentation on page 9: http://www.ieee.or.com/Archive/diversity_in_3g/diversity_in_3g.pdf

you'll see that the W-CDMA standard did evolve from GSM and CDMA (IS-95).

There are a lot of other references out there too, but these are the 2 I have readily available.

This could work with the 3ds tech, the front facing camera would recognize that you are moving your head and the 3ds would turn off the stereoscopic 3d while you move it. Once you stop moving your head the stereoscopic 3d is activated again and so on.

I didn't vote for anyone except obama, i was born here. Didn't vote for russian anything. Although my great babushka was in the KGB. We have a cute little picture of her in her leather jacket with a gun and cigar in her mouth, god rest her soul! And America DOES have a culture, it's a mix of all cultures and their influences and contributions, part of the reason my family loves an appreciates this country so much. And as much as i like holuptsi and pierogi, i'd take me a good old bacon cheeseburger with cajun fries from five guys over any of that!

Since we're just hoping and wishing....

It would be really cool if Apple could just skip the cell phone and go straight to satellite phone service.

I know that the major carriers can't do it because the bandwidth is not there for Verizon's 40 million, Cingular's 42 million, or Sprint's 38 million customers, plus the phones are still bulky with huge antennas.

But if the minturization lept forward just a little bit, I would love to have an Apple satellite smartphone with bluetooth connectivity, screw CDMA, TDMA, GSM and all the other 3 and 4 letter words.

What's the max internet speed off of satelite? 700 kbps?

    Just dreaming :)

edit: nevermind, I forgot you prolly couldn't use it indoors anyway :(

Hydra;3051385']It appears it may just have fixed it. I just booted into XP and for the first time I got to see the ugly Windows progress bar, I usually got a black screen until the desktop popped up. I had to install XP with an old CRT I had lying around fyi.

Sweet... i'm going to give it a try here... one last time. I've had enough of these bootcamp issues. I can't even get windows installed on my Mac Pro.. fed up.

oh, HELL no. Please don't tell me you're serious. Can you actually imagine someone carrying around a portfolio of these plates to lay on their computer? That's worse than an 8" floppy!!!

    Unbelievable.

I pray this never sees the light of day.

    -Clive

It may not be for the user to swap out. Think about it from a manufacturing standpoint. It would drastically reduce their own costs for making devices that are built and configured for a particular task. It would also make it possible for 3rd party hardware people to build their own specific device around the iPod platform but with their own input devices instead. Except for the form factor, it wouldn't look anything like an iPod

This is interesting because with this patent, Apple is essentially saying that the scroll wheel, while great for music players, may not suffice as an input device for everything they want to build. So they ask themselves, "if that is the case, how can we reduce our R&D while simultaneously building the most usability into our future products?" This is one way that could happen.

I do agree, however, that the application where the user could "swap" face plates (essentially) and turn their iPod into a mixer, is a little farfetched. If I truely needed both devices, I probably would simply buy two iPods. Between the input pads, software, and hassle, you'd have a hard time convincing me that it there would be a large cost-savings.

I saw this on 9to5mac and it does work, ordered the ram on saturday from amazon and it works.

What RAM did you use? I tried to swap my memory (same specs) from my Mac mini (8GB) into my MBP and I just got the three beeps of death when I tried to turn it on. Does it have to be a specific brand and/or spec?

The new Xserver is whole lotta machine for the money. I don't see Dell's feature set coming anywhere near the Xserver.

Dell has the advantage of a much more complete server lineup. Apple only offers a 1U configuration with a single operating system and very limited options. Good for Mac users who want a server, bad for enterprise sales.

Unfortunately I was too poor to really benefit from the soaring AAPL stock. Even if I had bought a 100 shares back in 2000, I'd at best made $30K profit by now. Nothing to cry about.

If some of the components come from Japan, is Apple scanning the finished units for radiation? I'm not saying but I'm just saying...

Check out www.theregister.com for some articles that provide a bit of sanity to that issue. If you are afraid of radiation then you should insist that your iPad is transported by ship and not by aeroplane, because it gets much more exposure to radiation while in the air.
